Where The Locals Eat: Best Mexican Spots in DFW

When you think of the Texas food scene, you likely think of two things: barbeque, and Mexican food. And for good reason - anyone who’s sampled our culinary offerings knows that Texas does them best. (See our BBQ recommendations here & here.) Now it’s time for us to help you find the best Mexican food and Tex-Mex in the DFW Metroplex.

Let’s go!

Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano

If traditional Tex-Mex is your aim, look no further than Esparza’s! “Famous for Tex-Mex, notorious for margaritas,” Esparza’s has two locations in Grapevine & Coppell. Monday through Friday, happy hour runs from 11 am to 7 pm - time we’d advise you spend on their incredible patio with one of the aforementioned margaritas. Whether you sample the fajitas, enchiladas, or any other Tex-Mex favorite, you won’t be disappointed!

Cafe Salsera

Cafe Salsera is more than a Mexican restaurant - it’s a full-on entertainment venue, a patio coffee shop, Latin dance club, and salsa dancing hub. Whatever you come for, Cafe Salsera will entertain. Oh, and the food: Salsera offers a combination of traditional dishes and unique twists alongside a full bar. It’s guaranteed to be an entertaining stop!

Herrera’s Cafe

Herrera’s has been dishing up authentic Tex-Mex since 1971. The restaurant features a massive outdoor patio so you can take in the Texas breeze while sampling their famous salsa and enchiladas. Top it off with a margarita and you’ll understand what makes Herrera’s a local favorite!

Manny’s Uptown

Manny’s in Uptown offers incredible patio dining steps from West Village. Whether you’re craving Tex-Mex or just drinks and patio breeze, Manny’s has you covered. This quirky restaurant lives inside a brightly painted house and is famous for their queso and Mexican brunch on the weekends.

Mesero is a local Mexican favorite started by local Mexican food innovator, Mico Rodriguez. Mico’s Mesero is an upscale Mexican dining experience offering reimagined Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes north of Uptown. The restaurant greets visitors with modern ambience and spectacular service. We recommend the guac and queso appetizers!
